INTERNATIONAL
WOMEN’S DAY
International
Women’s Day (March 8) is a global day celebrating the social, economic,
cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to
action for accelerating gender parity.
It is all about
unity, celebration, reflection, advocacy and action - whatever that looks like
globally at a local level. In India, the day is celebrated to make people aware
of all the progresses that have been done till date and the work that still
needs to be done. Achieving gender equality and empowering women and girls is
the unfinished business of our times. Gender equality is enshrined in countless
laws, and many harmful practices have been outlawed in many countries over a
period of time, including in India.
Women’s
participation makes peace agreements stronger, societies more resilient and
economies more robust & resolute. Where women face discrimination, we often
find practices and beliefs that are detrimental to all. At this crucial moment
for women’s rights, it is time for men to stand with women, listen to them and
learn from them.
At a time when
crime against women is a major area of concern in South District Delhi Police
seizes the occasion by celebrating the valor of women and her inner strength.
Our women centric initiatives are meant to transform these celebratory
momentums into action and to empower women in all settings. These are:
·
SASHAKTI: -
An initiative where girls are trained in easy-to-learn-and-use self-defense
techniques across the capital.
·
SHISHTACHAR: -
An initiative to keep eve-teasers at bay.
·
NIRBHEEK:
To create awareness amongst girl students about various aspects of sexual
offences and instill confidence in them to seek help in such matters.
South District has
also launched ‘ALL Women Patrolling
Squad’. It is launched to give a greater sense of security and comfort
to the girls and women moving on road and at public places, for their personal
and professional pursuits. On the other hand, it is a step forward in
encouraging and motivating ‘Female Police Personnel’ of the police force by
making the organization more inclusive for them and putting those at the
pro-active front of field policing. The women patrolling squads are equipped
with wireless sets, protection gear, firearms, four Motorcycles, a Gypsy with a
women police officer as the driver and incharge to lead the patrol team. All in
all, it is an effort to provide additional safeguards to women in the City.
Women should be
taught to believe in protecting herself on her own and not to depend on a man
for her protection. She has the power to protect the world and not just herself.
In Delhi Police there are 7935
female officers’ personnel and 225 of them are in South District. On International Women’s Day 2018, the female
officers who have done commendable work in past 1 year along with those
civilian women who have been doing noteworthy work shall be appreciated by DCP
South District for their dedication and hard work. What better way to celebrate
it than to shine light on the females who have contributed to society with
their talent, perseverance, and timeless wisdom.
This Women’s Day
let us all promise to create a better world to live in. This is not a
benevolence or kindness towards women. But what they deserve.
